In 2026, Bohol Island State University (BISU) participated for the first time in the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, marking an important step in the University’s continuing commitment to sustainability, environmental responsibility, and global benchmarking. The 2026 edition included 2,016 universities from 110 countries, making it the largest edition of the ranking to date.

The UI GreenMetric World University Rankings, established by Universitas Indonesia, is a global ranking system that assesses universities based on their commitment and performance in creating sustainable and environmentally responsible campuses. Its assessment covers areas such as Setting and Infrastructure, Energy and Climate Change, Waste, Water, Transportation, Education and Research, with the 2026 edition also incorporating Governance and Digitalization.

For its inaugural participation, BISU was ranked 1,979th globally, 1,229th in Asia, and 130th in the Philippines in the 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings. The official UI GreenMetric results list BISU with a total score of 1,387.5 points.

BISU’s participation provides the University with a baseline for measuring and strengthening its sustainability initiatives. More importantly, joining UI GreenMetric encourages the institutionalization of programs related to green infrastructure, energy and climate action, waste management, water conservation, sustainable transportation, and sustainability-oriented education and research. Through continued participation, BISU can use the results to identify areas for improvement, document evidence of its sustainability initiatives, and further integrate sustainable development into its institutional planning and operations.
