BISU MC CAS – Progress in Journal Publication through Bibliometric Analysis Conducted by VMCJPI

BUENAVISTA, BOHOL – Demonstrating its firm commitment to academic excellence and community empowerment, the Bohol Island State University – Main Campus (BISU-MC) partnered with Buenavista Community College (BCC) to conduct a one-day seminar-workshop titled “Empowering Educators: Enhancing Data Analysis Skills through JAMOVI.”
The extension activity, jointly organized by BISU-MC’s College of Arts and Sciences and College of Teacher Education, aimed to improve the statistical and data analysis competencies of local educators through hands-on training in JAMOVI, a free and user-friendly statistical software.
The program opened with a warm welcome from Dr. Venuz E. Niñeza, BCC’s Research and Extension Director, who stressed the importance of continuous professional development and inter-institutional collaboration in elevating research culture in the academe.
Dr. Eliza T. Jala, Chairperson of the BS and MS Mathematics programs at BISU-MC, followed with an insightful message on the vital role of data literacy in quality instruction and meaningful research. She also introduced the roster of BISU resource speakers for the day.
The morning session featured Dr. Analyn D. Pesidas, who led foundational training on JAMOVI’s basic features using real-world data sets. Her systematic approach helped participants grasp key concepts in data organization and interpretation.
In the afternoon, Mr. CJ T. Hingpit and Engr. Lester C. Baroro guided participants through advanced functions of JAMOVI, including statistical testing and data visualization. Their interactive facilitation encouraged hands-on learning and active engagement from the participants.
Following the sessions, two faculty members from BCC—Ms. Julie Marie Palma-Asombrado and Mr. John Mhel Hahutin—offered their reflections, expressing appreciation for the knowledge gained and the collaborative efforts between BCC and BISU-MC. Both emphasized the workshop’s practical relevance to their teaching and research responsibilities.
To cap off the event, Dr. Antonieta O. Ocaña, Chairperson of BISU-MC’s MAEd and EdD programs, delivered a closing message. She praised the enthusiasm of both participants and facilitators, and reaffirmed BISU-MC’s dedication to supporting research capacity-building initiatives in partner communities.
The entire program was masterfully hosted by Dr. Joseph I. Saligan, who ensured a smooth and engaging flow of activities throughout the day.
This successful extension program highlights BISU-MC’s continuing role as a catalyst for educational innovation and professional growth, advancing research excellence through strategic partnerships and community engagement.
Following the successful first day, the seminar-workshop “Empowering Educators: Enhancing Data Analysis Skills through JAMOVI” continued on May 3, 2025, via Zoom, bringing together Bohol Island State University – Main Campus (BISU-MC) and Buenavista Community College (BCC) once again to further develop the participants’ data analysis skills.
The online session began with a prayer and the singing of hymns, creating a focused and respectful atmosphere that set the tone for the day. Engr. Lester C. Baroro led both the morning and afternoon workshops, guiding participants through advanced JAMOVI features. His clear instructions and practical examples helped attendees deepen their understanding and apply the software’s tools with confidence.
After the training sessions, Ar. Analiza L. Chua, BCC President, and Dr. Venuz E. Niñeza, BCC Research and Extension Director, formally presented certificates of appreciation to the BISU resource speakers and team. This gesture underscored the strong partnership and shared commitment between the two institutions to enhance research capacity in the community.
Dr. Chona G. Fullido, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, delivered the closing remarks, highlighting the participants’ active involvement and the success of the workshop despite the challenges of the virtual format. She encouraged everyone to continue applying their new skills to improve teaching and research.
Throughout the day, Dr. Joseph I. Saligan served as master of ceremonies, ensuring the event ran smoothly and keeping the sessions engaging and well-paced.
This second day of the workshop reinforced BISU-MC’s dedication to supporting academic growth and community collaboration. Despite being held online, the program proved effective in advancing the research skills of educators and strengthening ties between BISU-MC and BCC.
