Beyond Achievements: A Heartfelt Tribute to Parents at BISU Bilar

The Bohol Island State University (BISU) celebrated another significant milestone this graduation season, as the BISU Bilar Campus came alive with joy and emotion. The gymnasium was filled with an atmosphere of celebration—smiles, tears, hugs, and profound gratitude—as graduates gathered for the Recognition and Tribute to Parents ceremony on June 11, 2025, at the BISU Bilar Gymnasium, Zamora, Bilar, Bohol.
Dr. Proceso M. Castil, the Campus Director of BISU Bilar, warmly welcomed everyone with heartfelt remarks. In his speech, Dr. Castil emphasized how momentous this day is not only for the graduates but also for their proud parents who have been instrumental in their success.
The program commenced with the presentation of graduation candidates by the respective deans: Dr. Manolito C. Macalolot, Dean of the School of Advanced Studies; Dr. Severino B. Salera Jr., Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences; Dr. Noel T. Lomosbog, Dean of the College of Forestry and Environmental Sciences; Dr. Marites D. Muring, Dean of the College of Teacher Education; Dr. Nelia Q. Catayas, Dean of the College of Technology; and Dr. Roxanne Ann A. Nuez, Dean of the College of Business and Management.
Following the presentations, special awardees were recognized by the Student Development Services (SDS), with SDS Director, Ms. Joecel B. Mabanag, taking the lead. This was followed by the official recognition of graduation candidates and the presentation of special awards, with Dr. Proceso M. Castil leading the ceremony, assisted by the esteemed deans.
Next, Dr. Marites D. Muring, Focal Person of DOI and Dean of the College of Teacher Education, introduced the distinguished guest speaker, Dr. Rico C. Ancog. Dr. Ancog is a professor and former dean of the School of Environmental Science and Management (SESAM) at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), as well as the Special Assistant to the Director at the SEAMEO Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA).
In his thought-provoking speech, Dr. Ancog shared a powerful inspiring message:
“Progress is not measured by how exclusive the world becomes, but by how expansive your impact is. Use what you have achieved to create spaces for others, to open doors that were once closed to people like us, to amplify voices that are often overlooked, and to return— even if it may be easier to keep moving forward without looking back. Because one day, no one will remember the awards you’ve won, the letters that follow your name, the speeches you’ve delivered. But someone will remember that you saw them, made room for them, and made them believe that progress was possible for them too.”
He went on to emphasize that the most meaningful legacies are built not on accolades, but on the lives touched and transformed because of your choices. He reminded the graduates to continue learning and, just as importantly, to listen. “Success disconnected from compassion does not last… it fades. Titles can be forgotten, wealth can be lost, but what remains is how your success was felt by others—those whom you’ve helped, those you’ve inspired, and those who found hope because you chose not only for yourself but for everyone.”
He encouraged the graduates to take their brilliance into the world and show what it means to be shaped by a place like Bohol and a university like BISU. “Let your purpose never blur, even when the path ahead becomes dazzling. Remember: Who do you rise for? That’s where it all begins, and that’s where it should all return.”
Following Dr. Ancog’s inspiring words, Ms. Maricel M. Balio of BISU Bilar BEEd delivered a deeply moving expression of gratitude to the benefactors. She acknowledged the rollercoaster ride of life—its ups and downs—and shared a personal, emotional story of overcoming adversity. “I am learning to thrive again and finding strength in vulnerability. After the deepest darkness, there is always a possibility of light,” she said, her voice filled with emotion. Ms. Balio expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the parents and families who had been a constant source of support throughout the journey.
In a moment filled with overwhelming emotion, all 821 graduates of BISU Bilar campus proceeded towards their parents, offering tokens and flowers as a symbol of their heartfelt appreciation. As they sang “Always You”, this Tribute Offering Moment was marked by tears of joy and meaningful embraces, a powerful expression of love and gratitude towards those who had supported them unconditionally.
Ms. Annabelle M. Lim, on behalf of all the parents, delivered a heartfelt message of response. “As a parent, witnessing the milestones in your life is both a privilege and a joy. Today, we celebrate not just your academic achievements but also the perseverance, dedication, and hard work that have brought you here. Your journey through college has been a testament to your resilience, and we have watched you grow, learn, and overcome challenges with unwavering spirit. As parents, our role has been to support, encourage, and believe in you. We have shared in your triumphs and offered a shoulder during your struggles. Watching you succeed today fills our hearts with pride and joy,” she said.
Ms. Lim continued by expressing gratitude to the faculty and staff of BISU Bilar for their guidance and nurturing. “Thank you for challenging them to grow and preparing them to face the world with confidence, skills, and integrity. We are confident that you will continue to make us proud as you forge your own path. Embrace the challenges and opportunities ahead with the same determination and enthusiasm you’ve shown throughout your college years.”
The ceremony concluded with the Graduating Class Adviser, Mr. Renan O. Sale, delivering the closing remarks. Finally, BISU Bilar’s Public Information Officer, Mr. Rey Marvin H. Lambus, who served as the Master of Ceremonies, directed everyone for a final photo and video opportunity to capture the memories of this unforgettable day.
