CAS Leads Day 2 of Quality Course Syllabus and Assessment Workshop

Tagbilaran City, April 21, 2025 — The College of Arts and Sciences at Bohol Island State University Main Campus held the second day of its two‑day training‑workshop on Course Syllabus Alignment and Test Item‑Analysis at JJ’s Seafood Village. It was also participated in by the faculty and heads of the College of Teacher Education and College of Technology. CAS Dean Bernabe M. Mijares Jr., Ph.D., opened the proceedings. Faculty registered at 8:00 AM while Dr. Catherine B. Orcullo led the invocation.

Dr. Enriqueta D. Reston of the University of San Carlos facilitated the morning session. In small groups, the faculty reviewed existing test items. They pinpointed misalignments with learning outcomes. Each team proposed clear, objective‑aligned revisions. Dr. Reston contextualized item analysis within Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI).

After lunch, the workshop shifted to hands‑on test‑item analysis. Resource persons demonstrated systematic checks for validity, discrimination, and reliability. Participants examined question stems, distractors, and scoring guides with the guidance of Dr. Reston. Team representatives also presented their work examples of doing item analysis, either manually or aided by software.

At 4:30 PM, Campus Quality Assurance Director Bernarda R. Villarojo led the closing ceremony. Certificates of Participation and Appreciation were distributed. In her remarks, Dr. Villarojo stressed that these enhanced skills will strengthen outcomes‑based instruction and assessment across the college. The workshop adjourned at 5:00 PM.
