Visayas Steno, Keyboarding, and Quiz Bowl 2025: A Resounding Success!

The Bohol Island State University (BISU)-Main Campus was filled with lively synergy and excitement on April 2, 2025, as the Office Administration Society of Innovative Students (OASIS) successfully hosted the Visayas Steno, Keyboarding, and Quiz Bowl 2025. This year’s competition with the theme “Fostering Collaboration through Mastering Office Skills for a Brighter Future,” was built upon the triumphs from previous events. This proved to be an exceptional showcase of talents and dedication of students gathered from across Visayas.
The Visayas Steno, Keyboarding, and Quiz Bowl 2025 drew participants from a diverse array of esteemed institutions across the region, including the BISU network (Bilar, Candijay, and Main Campuses), Central Philippine Adventist College (CPAC), Eastern Visayas State University-Main Campus (EVSU), Negros Oriental State University-Main Campus (NORSU), Tagbilaran City College (TCC), and Trinidad Municipal College (TMC).
Commenced with vibrant performances by the BISU Band and Skilartales Performing Group, this was followed by an array of processional march with some of the University officials, faculty, staff, and school delegates. The event aims to develop office-related technical skills and foster professional growth.
BISU Main Campus Director, Dr. Samuel J. Gulayan welcomed and inspired all the participants in his speech. He then emphasized the relevance of stenography in professional settings. Dr. Rizaleth P. Mepieza, Dean of the College of Business Management (CBM), highlighted the event’s purpose in skills development and collaborations.
The competitions were held in four categories: Text Production, Speech Capturing (Gregg Shorthand and Steno Machine), Audio Transcription (Gregg and Steno Machine), and the Quiz Bowl. The Bohol Island State University Main Campus emerged as the overall Champion for the overall standings, followed by Tagbilaran City College as 1st runner-up and BISU Bilar Campus as 2nd runner-up respectively.
The key highlight of the program was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between BISU and Pacific Office Solutions Inc. The MOU was inked by Ms. Maria Christina Lachica, representative of Pacific Office Solutions Inc. together with Dr. Rizaleth Mepieza and Dr. Samuel J. Gulayan of BISU. This partnership aims to enhance stenography education and training through a six-month program designed to improve employment opportunities in the field.
The Visayas Steno, Keyboarding, and Quiz Bowl 2025 celebrated the outstanding achievements of participating students and highlighted the collaborative spirit and pursuit of excellence that defined the event. The dedication and support of all involved institutions contributed to the resounding success of this remarkable competition, emphasizing the importance of mastering office skills for a brighter future.
The event’s success was made possible by the tireless efforts of the BSOA Section 3C and 3D, the OASIS Events Management team led by the Annlezhien G. Loquias and Mae Kyla B. Cuanag, under the exceptional leadership of Dr. Arvin S. Caballo, the Chairperson and Events Consultant of Visayas Steno, Keyboarding, and Quiz Bowl 2025.
