KADLIT Firestarter Brings Home White Citation Award for BISU

BISU Strikes White!

A resounding congratulations to Bohol Island State University (BISU) for winning the prestigious White Citation Award at the Good Design Award Philippines 2026 for its groundbreaking innovation, the KADLIT Firestarter!

Selected from an impressive pool of 311 entries, this special recognition is conferred upon outstanding new raw materials or significant improvements to existing ones. The award is proudly received by the Vice President for Research, Innovation, and Extension, Dr. Ivy Corazon A. Mangaya-ay, along with innovators Dr. Angeline B. Elegio and Ms. Belle Bianca T. Cabahug.

This achievement reflects the creativity, dedication, and excellence of the entire BISU community, under the leadership of University President Dr. Anthony M. Penaso. The university also extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) for its invaluable role in connecting BISU to the DTI Design Center of the Philippines, paving the way for this remarkable recognition.

Special commendations go to the Industrial Design Department, led by Chairperson Dr. Deceryl Gen T. Saligumba, under the College of Engineering, Architecture, and Industrial Design, headed by Dr. Dave J. Pojadas. Heartfelt congratulations also to the brilliant KADLIT research team — Ms. Belle Bianca T. Cabahug, Mr. Kelvin Christian D. Apayor, and Ms. Angelie Timon — as well as their dedicated adviser, Dr. Angeline B. Elegio, and the entire Industrial Design faculty and staff.
