BISU Strengthens Research Capacities Through Extension Collaboration at Buenavista Community College

The College of Arts and Sciences of Bohol Island State University Main Campus joins the Writeshop on Crafting Bibliometric Analysis Papers as participated by Engr. John Lester C. Baroro at Molave Hall, One Central Hotel, Cebu City on May 29 – 30, 2025. The Writeshop aims to enhance the newly emerging journal of the college of arts and science focusing on the dynamics of the journal index, authors index and criteria worthy for Scopus. This is steered on bibliometric research development, parts of its nuances are the computation and analysis of different indexes.

Upon the arrival of most participants, the writeshop begins with the singing of the National Anthem and Invocation. After that, an introduction of different member Institutions of the VMCJPI along with its participants. Some Institutions have no participant and some have few delegates but Bohol Island State University is strongly represented by sending multiple participants in our different campuses. The welcome address is delivered by Dr. Ann Francis R. Sy with a challenge as well as a requirement to pursue a publishable output at the end of the writeshop. The whole morning talks about the bibliometrics analysis, its concepts and area of application. Dr. Don Eliseo Prisno – III has been replaced by Mr. Jerico B. Ogaya , one of his mentees, is also very knowledgeable in bibliometric analysis. He also presented several of their papers along with the research papers highlights. Later that morning, Mr. Ogaya talks about the different scopus qualifications and evaluation process of identifying different free and scopus indexed journals.

In the afternoon of the same day, the writeshop started by the introduction of two free to use software for bibliometric analysis and generating keywords for the search fields of different databases. Ms. Jannie Fluer V. Oraño discussed the details of the two software with the support of Mr. Ogaya. The whole afternoon focuses on the analysis of the data collected from the Scopus database which ends at exactly 5pm.

On May 30, 2025, the writeshop continues intensively through the whole morning along with individual coaching sessions with both resource speakers. The presentation of output started later that morning with the critiques and coaching of Mr. Ogaya. It continues until the end of 2:30 pm in the afternoon. This writeshop highlights the benefits of writing bibliometric research articles especially in the development and direction of future research and the consolidation of knowledge. It also gives insight in measuring the authors’ collaboration, journal’s association and its contribution to the body of knowledge.
