Strengthening BISU’s Environmental Advocacy: Waste Management IEC Workshop

On March 21, the BISU University Planning Office and the University Information Office successfully conducted a Waste Management Information, Education, and Communication (or IEC) Workshop, at JJ’s Seafood Village, Tagbilaran City, Bohol.

The workshop gathered all University Information Officers, Campus Information Officers, and Planning Officers from BISU’s six campuses. It aimed to enhance the participants’ knowledge of the university’s upcoming Pollution Control and Environmental Stewardship policy, craft a communication plan to effectively communicate the environmental sustainability initiatives of the university throughout the institution, and establish roles in its implementation. Ms. Mae Remedios C. Virtucio, Public Information Officer III, gave an insightful talk on the basics of communicating effectively. After, Ms. Bona Dea L. Padron, Planning Officer III, featured a discussion on the seven R’s of waste management, the ByeSURA Project, and the upcoming pollution control policy, highlighting the importance of proper waste segregation and sustainability initiatives. After the presentations, the participants, oriented with the environmental policy and the basics on communications, collaborated in the creation of strategies to relay the policy objectives to the students and personnel of BISU, in the hope of nurturing new advocates for responsible waste management within the institution. Through collaborative discussions and communication plan crafting, the workshop reinforced the participants’ role in driving environmental awareness and action across all BISU campuses.
