On September 24-25, 2024, Bohol Island State University (BISU) embarked on a significant benchmarking visit to three (3) prominent higher education institutions in the Visayas: Visayas State University (VSU), Leyte Normal University (LNU), and Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU). This academic endeavor aimed to study and assess best practices in three pivotal areas: Administrative Support Services at VSU, Green Campus Initiatives and Futures Thinking Strategies at both LNU and EVSU.
The first phase of the benchmarking activity was held at VSU, where BISU representatives engaged in comprehensive discussions on VSU’s Administrative Support Services framework. Recognized for its innovative and efficient administrative systems, VSU demonstrated strategies for optimizing institutional operations, including streamlined workflow processes, integrated digital solutions, and robust personnel management systems. The BISU delegation carefully examined these methodologies, with a view to adapting them for their own institutional needs, underscoring the increasing necessity of operational agility in higher education administration.
The succeeding leg of the benchmarking visit at LNU and EVSU focused on the university’s exemplary Green Campus Initiatives, which highlight both institutions’ leadership in sustainability and environmental stewardship. BISU representatives were presented with comprehensive approaches to campus sustainability, which include eco-friendly infrastructure development, renewable energy utilization, and sustainable waste management practices. Moreover, both institutions served as focal points for exploring Futures Thinking Strategies, a conceptual framework that encourages long-term institutional foresight and preparedness for emerging global trends.
This benchmarking initiative underscores BISU’s proactive approach to forging academic partnerships and adopting innovative practices that will enhance the university’s administrative efficiency, environmental sustainability, and strategic foresight. It further reflects BISU’s dedication to fostering collaborative relationships with peer institutions to create a more future-ready academic environment.
The outcomes of this visit will undoubtedly contribute to BISU’s ongoing institutional development, as it positions itself at the forefront of higher education excellence, both locally and internationally.
